Peace and Sport Council of Afghanistan Awards 2025 Peace Prize to Sofiea Sakhi
The Peace and Sport Council of Afghanistan has announced journalist Sofiea Sakhi as the recipient of its 2025 Peace Prize, recognizing her continued commitment to independent reporting and advocacy for press freedom.
Sakhi, a journalist from Afghanistan currently based in Paris, France, left the country in 2021 following the Taliban’s return to power and the escalating threats faced by journalists particularly women working under severe restrictions.
Before relocating, Sakhi worked as a reporter and presenter for Ariana Television, covering a broad range of political and social issues. Her reporting frequently focused on women’s rights, governance, and security, establishing her as a prominent voice on critical national affairs.
She now serves as a Paris-based correspondent for Afghanistan International Television, where she continues to report on developments related to Afghanistan for a global audience. Her current work highlights the experiences of the Afghanistan diaspora, migration challenges, human rights concerns, and stories of resilience and resistance emerging from within the country.
Sakhi represents a new generation of women journalists from Afghanistan working in exile who remain dedicated to ensuring that the voices and realities of the people of Afghanistan continue to be heard through courageous and independent journalism.
