Peace and Sport Council of Afghanistan Awards 2025 Peace Prize to Mrs. Nigara Mirdad Omar
The Peace and Sport Council of Afghanistan has announced Mrs. Nigara Mirdad Omar as the recipient of its 2025 Peace Prize in recognition of her outstanding commitment to diplomacy, humanitarian service, and the advancement of women’s rights.
Mrs. Omar is a distinguished Afghanistan’s diplomat who most recently served as the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Warsaw from 2021 to 2024. Over the course of her diplomatic career, she has held several key positions, including:
• Deputy Director General, Third Political Department (2017–2020)
• Third Secretary, Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the UN Office in Geneva (2015–2016)
• Head of the Political and Economic Section, Embassy of Afghanistan in Paris (2013–2015)
She holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in International Law from Tajik National State University and has completed specialized diplomatic training in Afghanistan. Fluent in English and Russian, Mrs. Omar has played a vital role in assisting and evacuating Afghans during major crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2021 Taliban takeover.
Mrs. Omar is also the founder of the Afghanistan Women Female Diplomats Network, through which she has championed the empowerment of Afghanistan’s women in foreign service. Her contributions to international forums on human rights particularly women’s rights have earned her recognition as a leading advocate for equality and justice. She has additionally participated in multiple bilateral and multilateral negotiations and serves on several committees dedicated to promoting women’s leadership and protection.
